What this site is.
The Reasoned Economist is an archive of sober, thoroughly researched analysis across three fields: economic policy reform, global finance and banking, and political research and history.
The idea
Most writing on these subjects today falls into one of two camps. On one side, breathless hype — the daily churn of headlines, dressed up as analysis. On the other, impenetrable jargon written for people who already know the answer. This site tries to be neither.
Each piece here follows the same editorial discipline: a clear thesis, the context around it, the structure of the argument, and the lessons that follow. Patterns matter, and a consistent lens makes patterns visible.
What you'll find
Economic Policy Proposals covers proposals — ideas for how fiscal, housing, tax, and regulatory policy could work better, argued from first principles.
Global Finance & Banking covers the deals and institutions that move capital: leveraged buyouts, sponsor profiles, bank strategy, and the structural shifts in private markets.
Political Research & History covers the longer arcs: political economy, historical case studies, and the forces that shape how countries make and spend money.
What you won't
Hot takes on this morning's headlines. Stock picks. Predictions about where rates are going next quarter. The archive is built for readers who think in years, not hours.
